So how can you get rid of your ants?

Here’s an easy ant trap.

This ant trap is easy to make. All it takes is a small container, like the sour cream container used in the video. Then use a drill to make some holes so ants can get in.

Then mix sugar at a mixture of three teaspoons of sugar to every one teaspoon of Borax. Stir it with a small amount of warm water. You won’t need a lot for a small trap, but adjust the amount for your container.

Now, baby ants only eat solids, so you should add a solid to the trap. This makes it so that the adults feed poison to the young and the young feed poison to the queen.

After you set and cover the trap, leave it where you think the ant colony is.

It’s not enough to set the trap and forget it. Make sure you leave the trap near where the colony is. You should see ants in the trap within a day, so now it’s the waiting game.

After a few days, if your trap works, then you can check the colony and see how it worked out. Just check your trap daily and add more of the sugar and borax solution if it’s empty.

But don’t worry if you still see ant tunnels, what really matters is…

As the video explains, ant tunnels don’t go away after the ants are exterminated. So don’t panic! What you’re really looking for is whether you can visually see ants crawling around the nest.

Also, be sure to check the floor near the nests to make sure that you haven’t missed a second nest. If it’s all clear, then you can call that a win.

But are ants really a problem?

Before you go out and try any of these tips, consider whether your ant problem is really a problem. After all, ants have a variety of benefits for a healthy garden. These include:

  • Ants help control certain pests by eating their eggs or disturbing them during feeding.
  • Ant movement helps spread pollination, which is perfect for crop growth.
  • Ant tunnels aerate soil making it easier for nutrients to reach roots.

If you consider these facts and still want your ants gone, Fraser Valley Rose Farm’s video can certainly help.
