Have you had the urge to just leave the modern world behind and go live like a hermit in the woods? I definitely have, especially lately.

It’s more of a far off dream than something that seems truly attainable, right?

Well Kris Harbour is proving us all wrong. He’s living the dream!

Mr. Harbour is all about living sustainably in nature, away from the insanity of modern city living!

“I would rather make something with my hands than to buy it.

“There is nothing more rewarding to me than to make something and see it working. It’s a real privilege that I can spend my time doing what I enjoy.”

“Four years ago now, I moved from London. Sold all my possessions from London. Bought a piece of land from Wales. I built this little roundhouse.”

Harbour took that plunge that many of us dream of!

He let go of materialism and wealth and is instead living a simple life in the woodlands of Wales!

Harbour keeps chickens and chicks as good sources of food (thanks to the eggs) and he treats them very well!

He is even seen in the video heating up the food for the chicks

because “they’re very lucky little chicks!”

With food sources close at hand and the lush wet forests of Wales, Harbour has little to no need for a grocery store!

After feeding the birds it’s time for some breakfast for Harbour himself!

We get a pretty good look at the exterior of Harbour’s tiny house in the shot below.

Isn’t it so cool? It looks like a little witch’s hut in the woods! Mossy roof and all!

Harbour has a system in place for all of his needs!

We see a good few of these as he goes about cooking his breakfast!

The little shed you see in the image above is Harbour’s wood shed! The roofing and walls keep it protected from the elements so it can be used any time of the year!

He gathers some wood from the shed and takes it into his house where we get a good look at the stove.

You’ll notice the wood is pretty perfectly cut to size for this stove!

Now that the stove is heating up, Harbour can use some fresh eggs from the morning for his egg sandwich breakfast!

He has all the pots and pans he needs, and they’re clearly well made and sturdy! Life in the woods is not for fragile artsy pans!

The tiny home also takes a good amount of labour, so you know Harbour is eating well!

We get a fantastic look into his cozy space at this point, where you can see a few of the different elements that make up his home!

He has electricity, hot water and even entertainment!

You can see right up to where he sleeps in the loft area! How does he not fall off of that thing!?

He has areas dedicated to different functions

that you can make out! Yes that is a tub in the left corner!

You can also see his desk and chair set up at the far end of the house,

coupled with a great view!

Doesn’t that house just look perfect? It’s really intelligently made!

Now you know why it’s called a roundhouse!

The walls are also really well made for great insulation in the colder months, and when the wood splits harbour fills the cracks with the mixture he has used for the walls between the logs!

In the image above, Harbour is showing his very smart system for how he generates power year-round!

It’s hydroelectric energy, meaning

he uses naturally rushing water and a turbine to produce electricity!

It produces enough that he can keep everything charged and heated with no effort except maintaining the system!

That’s saying a lot considering he even shows off his beautiful workshop in the video where he builds and fixes things for his house!

Harbour has big plans for the future,

using his workshop and his own hands! According to his patreon, they include:

  • ” building a two story earth-bag workshop dug in to the hillside,

  • Building a timber framed two story house that will be fit to last a lifetime, also dug in to the hillside.

  • installing hydro electric systems of our own design.

  • keeping animals

  • growing vegetables

  • helping the local economy by offering courses in natural building.”
