While the Amish people of today go about their lives much differently than the rest of modern society, there’s no denying they’re still very much a part of it. As opposed to our convenience-filled and fast-paced world, they have created a world in which they live much more simplistically.

Even though they’re known for living simply, that doesn’t quell the prying eyes of curious folks wanting to look from the outside in.

People have wondered for years just how different this community is in terms of lifestyle from their own, and now they’re finally getting a glimpse.

Thankfully, this woman decided to give us a rare glimpse into the Amish lifestyle.

The video films the interior of an Amish home, shedding some light on their way of life. It depicts some pieces of information many people already know about the Amish, including their desire to have a large family.

According to the town of Lancaster, Pennsylvania tourism website:

“The family is the most important social unit among the PA Amish; those with seven to ten children are not uncommon. This high birth rate feeds the growth of the community of Amish in PA, as does the fact that four out of five children choose to become baptized and remain in the church. Jobs, friendships and business opportunities provide incentives to stay.”

The exterior of the massive house is very quaint. There are no elaborate designs and it’s painted in all white.

The video takes us to the large front porch, which is adorned with wooden rocking chairs. The Amish are master woodworkers and make their furniture by hand. That being said, no two pieces are alike and all of them are unique in craftsmanship.

Their furniture is made with precision, passed down from generation to generation, and is long-lasting and of top quality.

Walking through a large basement kitchen, we see the inside of the house for the first time.

The basement looks as if to be a very large kitchen area, complete with a copious amount of storage. Self-contained, the Amish grow their own vegetables and husband their own animals, so a large kitchen is necessary to prepare their meals.

The kitchen also features an incredibly impressive canning wall.

It’s a testament to the art of preservation and self-reliance.

As the video progresses, we move into the upstairs of the home.

As the tour continues, you get the sense that this home fits many people. The camera shows another room, unidentified, but it contains a table covered by a quilt – perhaps a place for crafting to occur.

Next up are the beautifully simplistic Amish bedrooms.

The bedrooms feature an almost tranquil simplicity. Everything is clean and tidy, there are no closets and no clutter. They merely contain a bed, a nightstand, a lamp, a window, and a coat hanger.

A few contain rocking chairs. One of the rooms shows some dresses hanging up, they are very simple in nature.

Gas lamps hanging from walls and ceiling confirm the Amish don’t rely on electricity to live.

We also get to see a panoramic view of the landscape from some of the rooms.

It’s pretty apparent that this sprawling farm is rather enormous. There’s obviously many acres to take in for their everyday view, and we’re a little jelly. In addition, there are extra outbuildings and housing units to help support their thriving community.
