Sometimes we just need a change.
Change isn’t always bad. Despite what others might say, it’s okay to branch out and try new things. Though deciding to go about doing things differently is a big decision, the heavy lifting (at times literal) begins when one has to actually do the work.
Dun dun dun!
But don’t worry, you’re not alone in feeling a bit overwhelmed with it. Big or small, there are many things to consider when doing so. For example, deciding to change the color of your hair can be a pretty big deal for someone who has never done it. How do I maintain it? What if I don’t like it? What if others don’t like it?
See, change isn’t easy but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth doing!
One YouTuber, Naomi Nuller, who goes by the username, erdenhüterin, decided to make a pretty big change. In a recent video, she shot a timelapse of her changing her room. While it might not sound like a big deal to some, our rooms play a significant role in how we feel.
For example, according to an article in Psychology Today, a cluttered room usually makes people feel anxious and stressed. The author, Dr. Sherrie Bourg Carter Psy.D., states that clutter bombards our minds due to excessive stimuli such as visual. In other words, having to look at so much stuff can send our brains into overdrive, which can create stress.
Therefore, it might not have been a terrible idea for Naomi to make a change. Although her room is far from being “messy” or “cluttered,” it simply didn’t motivate or inspire her. The video caption she wrote states, “Making a URBAN JUNGLE out of my old boring room.”
Sometimes, we need a little inspiration and if we can get it from the physical space around us, why not give it a try? Luckily for Naomi, she has a decent amount of space to work with.
Perhaps the coolest detail about this video is that she completely transforms her room in a span of just four hours! With a little help from mom, of course.
To begin, Naomi’s room is similar to the rooms of many other young ladies around the world. She lives in Germany but in all honesty, one wouldn’t be able to tell just by looking at her room. It could easily be the room of a young woman in, say, America.
She has a TV, dresser, rug, mirror, fish tank, and some unique wall designs. To start, the first thing she does is hang different wall art and disassembles the bed. Next, she takes out the rug and replaces the bed frame with wooden planks. Notably, she vacuums and cleans as she goes along.
Next, she hangs new curtains, moves her fish tank, and takes down the TV. She then brings in crates and more wall art. Finally, she brings in several plants and begins placing them around the room. Shortly after, an older woman, presumably her mother, comes in to help her drill holes into the ceiling.
By this point, the room is really starting to come together. Naomi tends to her plants and begins to hang them up around her room. The very last step seems to be a bit of a struggle. She and her mom have a difficult time hanging the last light.
After a bit of tussling, Naomi is able to get the light hung. The final result is a stunning, jungle oasis. Impressive work, Naomi!
So if you’ve been on the fence about making a change to something in your life, go for it! You just might be happy you did.
