The couple lived in Seattle, and they realized building a tiny home would cost less than their yearly rent and utilities.

“I never thought we would own a school bus. Yet, it does not surprise me that we do. We’re always up for an adventure, always open to venturing outside of the norm. Two creative parents. Four fun loving kiddos. And a whole lot of wild and crazy dreaming,” Sarah Szymczak told Simply Mothering.

After buying their bus, the Szymczaks got to work creating their perfect tiny home. Soon, they had a beautiful, functional home filled with personal touches!

The family decided to try a unique set-up with their bedrooms.

They put the master bedroom on one end of the bus and the children’s bedroom on the other end, creating bookends. In the center of the bus, they built a kitchen and bathroom.

The master bedroom features a custom-built wood plank. The wood plank has plenty of space for a mattress on top, and there’s lots of storage space underneath. During the day, the couple removes the mattress and uses the space as a play area for their four kids.

The kitchen is filled with modern appliances, including stainless-steel sinks and wood countertops. To save space, they cleverly attached their spice rack to the side of the counter.

There are also two fold-down tables located in the kitchen, which the family uses when they eat. They’re also typically where the kids will sit and do their schoolwork.

The kids’ bedroom features fun bunk beds, which the kids love.

Each bed has a curtain to give the kids a little privacy. The Szymczaks decided to build shelves under the beds to use as storage.

There’s just one thing that the bus is missing: a dishwasher. The Szymczaks had to choose between having a dishwasher or having a washer and dryer. With four small kids, it was an easy choice! Now, the family has a beautiful washer and dryer set.

The tiny house is also beautifully decorated, with homey touches throughout. Sarah put up lots of hanging plants to liven up the bus, and she also hung tons of colorful decorations.

The family is planning on driving their tiny home to the community where Ed, who’s a doctor, will be setting up his practice. They’re very excited about this new chapter in their lives. Sarah says:

“We’re not sure what is in store for us, but we’re certain that the bus ‘feels right’ and we’re sure that this will be a life changing experience.”
