An average house toilet will last for ten to fifteen years. To make sure your toilet will not break earlier than normal everyone should give their toilet a good deep clean. Toilets will accumulate rust, lime and grime which can break down your toilet faster. Deep cleaning your toilet does not have to be an all day event with many household products.

Andrea Jean demonstrates how to deep clean your toilet only using one household cleaner!

For this deep cleaning project you will need:

  • A toilet brush
  • Gloves
  • One squirt bottle
  • Toilet Paper
  • Cleaning Vinegar

Cleaning vinegar is 20% more acidic than regular vinegar, which makes this vinegar the best to use for cleaning purposes. You can find cleaning vinegar at your local dollar store. You can also purchase all the other needed materials at the dollar store too.

This cleaning hack can be done for under $10 too!

This deep clean will not only be cleaning the toilet bowl but also the toilet tank.

Cleaning the rust, lime, and grime within the toilet tank will help the toilet parts within the tank from breaking earlier than they should. Before you start your deep clean, make sure to turn the water off to your toilet. You will want to flush your toilet a few times to empty the tank as best as possible.

Andrea still has a bit of water left in the tank and states that will be okay.

Add the cleaning vinegar to the squirt bottle and get ready to clean!

You will want to squirt the vinegar directly on to the rust, lime and hard water streaks. The more the better, so do not worry about spraying too much. The first step is only squirting the vinegar throughout the tank and bowl, there is no scrubbing just yet. You are going to want the vinegar to really soak into those dirty areas.

Andrea plans to let the vinegar soak in her toilet for over an hour. Many people let the vinegar soak overnight, but about an hour or so will do.

Here is an extra cleaning hack step for a really dirty toilet bowl. Time to put on those gloves.

Grab some toilet paper and spray the paper with the vinegar. You will wad the toilet paper against the inside rim of the toilet bowl. You will repeat this step all the way around the rim of the toilet bowl. This will really soak the vinegar into the grime.

After the allotted time has past it is time to scrub the toilet clean. This great cleaning hack does not need much elbow grease though. The grime and rust will fall away more easily than usual.

Make sure to wear your gloves and clean the tank with a small scrub and/or your toilet brush.

After scrubbing the toilet tank for only two minutes, it looks like a brand new toilet.

After cleaning the toilet tank you will want to turn the water back on to the toilet. Then it is time to clean the toilet bowl. If you added the extra step with the toilet paper, no worries, you will clean your tank as normal with a toilet brush and flush the paper and dirty water down the drain.

This simple trick will have your toilet looking sparkling clean!
