We all know that reality can be so much stranger than fiction – and we can certainly say that’s the case for the real estate market. Sure, some houses and apartments have weird quirks or odd layouts, but these listings? They take strange to the next level.
Here are 50 property listings that came with some very unique options and features.
Did they really think these would be good selling points? Yikes.
#1 Hidden underground city
Someone stumbled upon a real estate listing for a massive, gorgeous mansion. When they started scrolling through the photos, they noticed there was a crazy surprise in the basement – an entire fake city. Why? No idea.
Wouldn’t it be a dream if you could cook your dinner while doing a load of laundry at the exact same time? No. Of course not. That’s weird. What is happening here?
How could we describe this bedroom? Cozy? Quaint? Charming? Suffocating? We’ll let you decide. There’s all one thing we can agree on though – this room is freaking small.
Photoshop can be super deceiving when done correctly. This photo editing job, however? We’re not quite sure who they think they’re fooling. It looks like it was done with the old Paint ‘app’.
There is so much going on in this bathroom (laundry room?) that we don’t even know where to begin. The toilet and washing machine are uncomfortably close and the sink is on the edge of a step. Who built this?
You are going to really need to love pink and fuschia if you’re going to purchase this home. Either that or you’re going to need to completely gut this entire room. At least the lighting is cute?
So…a toilet in the middle of the kitchen right by a window seemed like a good idea? Now you can slice, dice, and flush all in the same room! What a selling point.
The listing for this funky tiny apartment happened to include cats with every photo. They’re not included with the place, but if you’re allergic, you might want to do a deep clean before you move in. Cute tactic though.
The person who lived at this house clearly had a borderline unhealthy obsession with Mickey Mouse. The entire home is covered with the Disney character from head to toe. Apparently, themed homes are actually a thing, and people like them.
This attic apartment has a super bizarre bed that is elevated off the floor and over the stairs. What was the thinking process on this one? There are way more questions than answers here.
This apartment has a shower smack dab in the middle of the living room. It also has a somewhat transparent door. It makes things a tad bit awkward when you have guests over, don’t you think?
You really have to question some people’s taste in interior decor. Whoever designed this room went seriously overboard with just about everything in the room. The carpet, the curtains, the mirrored wall – it’s all…a lot.
“A friend bought a new house in 2017. When a cable technician went down the basement, they found this shrine to Nicholas Cage,” shared someone on Reddit. Whoever lived there prior really went through some effort to build this weirdness.
Would you believe us if we told you that this was a real photo from a real property listing? Then, would you believe us if we told you that this house sold for over $1 million dollars? It sounds like we’re making it up, but we’re not.
This was an actual photo that was shared on a property listing. You can’t exactly get a feel for the curb appeal when you’re looking through blurred, teary eyes. Can we get a re-take, please?
“My grandmother is trying to sell her house in Florida. Here’s what the photos look like,” shared one Twitter user. We don’t know about you but we’d buy this house in a heartbeat thanks to her. She’s too adorable!
Here’s another property listing that practically leaves us speechless. But we can’t stay quiet when, once again, there are SO MANY QUESTIONS! The design of the home is gaudy and bizarre. And what the heck is the TV doing up there? Someone explain.
The description of this bathroom stated that it was reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles in France. One – they must not have ever been to the Palace of Versailles. And two – if the Palace of Versailles was built on a tight budget in the late 70s.
“My wife and I bought a house. After a while, she noticed a hatch in the floor, and we found THIS. No wonder the box was so heavy,” said this Imgur user. Could you imagine? It’s like something out of a movie.
They clearly wanted their house to look like a castle, but it looks like something out of a poorly designed video game? It’s pretty over-the-top and it looks a bit out of the place. P.S. This is located in Wisconsin.
A realtor likes to dress up as Bigfoot and pose in his home’s listing photos. It has a real Harry and the Hendersons vibe and we’re diggin’ it. It probably works out pretty well for him.
If you’re going to take photos of your home to display online for potential buyers…you might consider making it look appealing. You know…maybe clean up a little? We see the cleaning products but then it just kinda stops there.
Look. We don’t know what happened in here and honestly, we don’t want to know. In fact, we’ll just back away slowly and pretend we didn’t see anything. Byeeee!
It’s nice that this property has an air conditioner, it’s always lovely to sleep at a cool temperature. There’s just one problem. I suppose you just need to find an extension cord?
Come on, guys. Let’s be optimistic about this. Maybe that spraypaint in the hall says “Surprise, my cocoa puff!” Regardless, it’s nothing a few coats of paint can’t fix, right?
“My apartment building has a World War II air-raid shelter in the basement,” said this Reddit user. I suppose in this day in age, it’s not a bad idea to have a bunker around.
Is your mind blown? Yep. Ours too. Nevermind the animal print bedding and decor, what is with the ceiling? It’s covered in what looks like random names. That colorful living room in the background looks like a whole ‘nother story.
The mirrored closet is a bit much but that’s not really the strange thing about this photo. We don’t know about you, but we don’t trust a real estate agent that doesn’t have a reflection. Seriously, though. How did they take this picture?
These folks found a hidden safe behind a fake power socket in their new house. We’re dying to know if anything was inside! Maybe they didn’t post because they didn’t want people to know they found millions of dollars in cash.
This property listing features the very bright and very vivid colors of this person’s quirky home. Don’t worry, you don’t have to keep all of the decor, you’ll just need to deal with the multi-colored rainbow walls.
If you know you’re going to be on the toilet for a minute, why not bring your laptop in so you can work? Or maybe iron some clothes? Or perhaps even eat a meal?
Was this a marketing tactic or what? There are definitely horse stables on the property but why they decided to show a horse in the living room is beyond us. Maybe that’s a normal occurrence for the previous owners.
The good news is…the property has a pool! The bad news is…it looks like this. This backyard needs some serious TLC. It looks like a scene from Jumanji back here.
We’re all about some avant-garde architecture but this triangle points all over the top of this house are just strange. Are they all skylights? Why did they all have to be so pointy? Maybe it keeps away birds?
This scene is pretty much straight out of a horror film. Whoever moves into this house next should probably have a priest come in and do some blessings or something. Not feeling these vibes at all.
We don’t know who they think they’re fooling but this “bedroom” is most obviously in the closet. And apparently you need to be less than 4-feet tall to even fit in that bed if you wanted to. Nice attempt at maximizing space, I guess.
