Whether it is winter or summer car windows will always fog up. Instead of waiting for the defrost to work its magic or using the windshield wipers that will leave streaks and only rid the fog for seconds, many believe that there are household products that would prevent from your car windows from fogging at all.

ChrisFix used five products to experiment with his car window and figure out which hack works the best.

Car windows get foggy because of dramatic temperature changes and existing humidity. In the wintertime it is cold outside and when a person enters in their car with their body heat and breath, fog will form on the windows.

Whereas, it is opposite during the summertime. The outside of your car has a high temperature and when you turn your car’s air conditioning the cold hits the existing humidity and fogs the windows.

Which household products have been rumored to stop your windows from fogging?

ChrisFix had heard of four household products that were rumored to stop windows from fogging up. The four products are baby shampoo, shaving cream, hand sanitizer, and potatoes. There are already products you can buy at a store that will keep your windows from fogging such as Rain-X. Chris decided to try out all five products to see if household products, which will be cheaper, are just as good.

ChrisFix separated his driver’s side window into five separate sections for each product.

The top left will have the Rain-X and the top right will have the shaving cream. The bottom left will have the baby shampoo, the bottom middle will use a potato, and the bottom right will have the hand sanitizer. Have you ever tried any of these household products to stop your windows from fogging?

The Rain-X, shaving cream, baby shampoo and hand sanitizer are all applied with the same method. On a clean window put a small amount of the product onto a paper towel or napkin and apply it to the window. Once the window has been covered completely, use another paper towel or napkin to wipe off any residue.

This method for the four products is quick and easy!

The potato method is a tad bit different, but just as quick and easy. You will want to cut the potato and apply the inside part of the potato to the window.

The top two products, Rain-X and shaving cream, work the best!

The shaving cream hack works just as well as a product aimed at keeping windows from fogging. The baby shampoo section left a soapy residue. The hand sanitizer did not work at all and fogged up quickly. While the potato left residue on the window, just like the baby shampoo.

Everyone has a brand of shaving cream in their house. Now you know you can use it for more than shaving! Shaving cream is also much cheaper than products, such as Rain-X, that aim to keep fog off windows.

Since shaving cream is the top choice another great hack is to use shaving cream on your bathroom mirrors to keep them from fogging too.
