New York City isn’t a cheap place to live. CBS News reports that a study by ATTOM Data Solutions found that residents of Brooklyn and Manhattan need to spend more than 115 percent of their income in order to be able to purchase a home there.

While the cost isn’t quite as high in other parts of the U.S., the majority of Americans can’t afford to own a home in 344 of 486 counties. That’s 71 percent of average wage earners.

According to a different CBS News article, the national median home price was about $257,000.

The gross income, in order to be able to purchase a home of that size, is $67,647.

However, ever the annual average wage in the U.S. is just $58,214. So, can you imagine how much you would need to make in order to afford a $40 million apartment in New York City?

I can’t! But let’s check out that apartment anyway.

It’s referred to as the Penthouse at One Hundred Barclay located in the world’s first Art-Deco skyscraper.

The duplex was designed by architect Ralph Walker and built-in 1927 and houses more than 14,539 square feet.

In addition to its massive space, it has completely unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty, Hudson River, and New York City skyline.

It’s the kind of apartment Batman or Tony Stark would live in, according to Shaun Osher of CEO Core Real Estate.

The living room is sprawling and boasts 20 feet tall floor to ceiling arched windows and enough wall space to fit your entire art collection.

There’s enough seating for more than 25 people but according to Osher it can fit about 300 people and is the “ultimate” space for entertaining.

Off of the living room is a 10-person dining room table. It’s so large that it also has a desk. The room’s architectural detail includes exposed columns, sitting nooks, and intimate corner spaces.

The kitchen has every appliance a chef would ever need, wine storage, and a separate prep sink area.

Off of the kitchen is an informal dining area, which is more suited for meals like breakfast and lunch.

In the corner, you’ll find a small couch and seating and fireplace. There’s an even larger seating area and couch on the opposite side of the fireplace along with a full-service wet bar for entertaining.

And that massive amount of space is still less than 50 percent of the apartment’s total space.

It’s just the duplex’s bottom floor. A temporary staircase takes you to the second level.

The second floor is completely unrenovated, aside from the mechanical outfitting, and was left as a blank canvas by developers so that the new homeowners can build it the way they want to.

On top of the 14,539 square feet of private space, homeowners will have access to the building’s more than 40,000 square feet in amenities.

These amenities include lounge areas, a 24-hour doorman, a concierge, a swimming pool, spa, fitness center, conference room, and a movie theater. Yup, it’s that extra.

My favorite part about the video tour of this home is the comments.

I couldn’t imagine how you’d clean a home that large.

Neither could people in the comments.

“I’m showing this to my mother and all she worries about is: ‘how the hell is the person gonna clean the ceiling with a broom?'” one commenter wrote.

“I couldn’t find my cat in this apartment,” said another.

“This is literally an apartment for a real-life Tony Stark. With a little modification, you can fly a jet out of that living room. Not to mention all the top-secret inventy things going on in that private space which conveniently comes bare. It’s just a Nikola Tesla lab in the making,” and another.
