Guide To How Often You Should Launder Clothes

Did you drop a ton of money on those jeans just because they fit you live a glove? Did grandma knit you a cozy blanket that you would like to pass down to your children?

Well, in order to make sure these items last you have to make sure you’re not washing them too often.

But let’s face it. There are some items in our home that we just don’t launder enough. In case you need some clarification, here’s a list on how often you should wash our clothing and linens.

After Every Wear

These are items that fit closest to your body and absorb oils, smells, and all the other stuff off of your body. You’ll want to wash these after every wear to keep them clean and stink-free.

Every Day

These items are constantly getting wet and moisture is a breeding ground for germs and bacteria so it’s best to make sure these are cleaned after each day of use.

Every Three Wears

Washing these items too often can wear down colors and fibers and shorten the garment’s lifespan. These items can be washed every three days. Make sure you launder them according to the directions on your label so that it lasts as long as possible.

Every Month

These items are used briefly or go underneath other things so they only need to be washed every month.

Here are a few other tips on how to make your laundry last:

  • Pretreat stains and rewash if they don’t come out
  • Sort laundry and follow care labels
  • Button your buttons and zipper your zippers before tossing things in the washing machine
  • Use a mesh bag for delicates
  • Don’t use too much detergent
  • Don’t overload the washing machine
