Cary Grant has gone down as one of the finest actors in history. His roles in such movies as ‘An Affair to Remember,’ ‘North by Northwest,’ and ‘To Catch a Thief,’ were incredible and memorable. Grant’s fame also brought riches – and now one of his mansions is for sale.

Sitting directly on the Santa Monica beachfront, this massive home was first built for silent actress Norma Talmadge, then owned by Howards Hughes, followed by Cary Grant.

1038 Palisades Beach Road is this oceanfront compound’s address. Built in 1930, the property features a 5,530-square-foot ‘main’ house, a four-car garage, pool, and tennis court. The home is currently listed for around $12 million and is being sold by the well-known luxury real estate agent Jade Mills.

The entrance to the home features a large courtyard with pond and water feature.

“Jennifer Diener purchased the home 38 years ago with her husband Royce, who died in May 2017 after serving as president & CEO of American Medical International. He was also a board member for the L.A. Philharmonic and UCLA Medical Center. The couple reportedly paid $750,000 for the house,” according to House Beautiful.

Cary Grant married heiress Barbara Hutton in 1942, and she too moved into the grand estate.

The Wall Street Journal says that “Hutton transformed the dining room to replicate the Parisian restaurant Maxim’s.” Notice the elegant details like the Persian rug and crystal chandelier. So beautiful!

The current owner wanted to make sure that she retained much of the home’s original features and charm.

All of the furnishings and decor of the home pay homage to the mansion’s rich history. Diener maintained many of the homes fine details, however, she did remove the barbed wire that Howard Hughes hand installed on the property fence.

The master suite is the size of many people’s entire apartments!

Not many of us can say that we wake up to ocean views in the morning. The master bedroom suite also boasts a sitting area, dressing room, office, and two bathrooms with original tilework.

The kitchen has been updated with modern appliances like a gas range, dishwasher, and large double-door refrigerator. Storage is certainly not an issue when you’re dealing with this much cabinetry and ample counter space.

If you’re looking for a room that’s a bit more cozy, head into the den.
