There are a lot of tiny houses and small homes, but sometimes a little can go a long way. That’s true for this home. It’s located in Hollywood and at first glance, it appears to be pretty small and plain. Built in 1912, it’s just a little over 600 square feet in size. It’s been updated since then and the designer put a lot of effort into making this small house a big hit.

The living room may be small, but the designers made the most out of the space.

The entryway goes into the living room and then into the rest of the house. There is a bed in the very back that not only hangs from the ceiling to allow for even more space but it also functions as a light fixture.

When it comes time to go to bed, the homeowners simply pull the bed down. In the morning, they put it back up so they have plenty of room to move around. They can just flip the light off and on as desired too. That’ a pretty great idea, right? They also made as much storage space as possible.

To brighten things up, the designer made sure the house had plenty of windows.

Luckily, a small house is easy to light with sunlight. Vaulted ceilings and exposed beams make the house feel larger. Little details like this can make a big difference in stretching the home.

Even the colors used in the décor help make the home feel bigger. Lighter colors make it seem more open and little details like the white area rug make a difference as well. Tall plants added to the corners of the room make the ceiling appear taller.

While the bedroom may seem to be a part of the main living area, when bedtime comes around, a curtain can be pulled to allow for some privacy.

This eliminates the need for walls and helps keep the home open.

The designer spared no expense on the bathroom. It’s more like a spa and although the home is small, the bathroom takes up a good bit of space. It features a stone shower and a bathtub for soaking. The main focal point is a floating sink that’s been carved from a real bolder.

French doors off the bathroom exit into a private courtyard. There is a galvanized arch, cushioned chairs, and a coffee table that can be turned into an outdoor fireplace. The colors and wood used in the design make it comfortable and welcoming.

The website described the home as,

“Hip, off the charts. A magical environment; impossible to duplicate. Featured in Dwell, “Small Spaces, Big Ideas”, Nov. 2013. Completely walled and gated, this celebrity owned, one-of-a-kind mini-compound is located on an unassuming street in the heart of Hollywood. A vintage bungalow, originally built in 1912, has been transformed into the perfect pied-a-terre: the quintessential open concept plan, with sleek, warm and sophisticated indoor-outdoor loft-like living.”

This little house is proof that good things do come in small packages.

It might be small, but it’s beautiful inside. Sure, someone could have torn down this old house and built a huge mansion in its place. Luckily, someone fell in love with it and took the time to make it great again.
