Clutter is something we all have to face. Even the most organized of people have to tackle their storage solutions in the first place, right? But it’s not all labelling and colored sticky notes. There are some incredibly clever organization hacks that you can use to use every space in your home to it’s full potential.
1) An old ladder can become a shelving solution
Who knew ladders could have so many purposes outside being… well, a ladder. This home owner found a creative way to turn it into a unique wall piece which doubles as both a feature and storage.
2) Trays and pans
Most people store their baking trays and other flat cooking ware in a drawer. But the reality is that it quickly gets cluttered in there, and every time you open or close that drawer they’re sliding around and creating a racket. But by storing them vertically it solves all the problems!
3) Slide out shelves
This one isn’t a quick or easy DIY fix. But if you really want to make the most of some wall space, especially unusual spaces like this wall under the stairs, you can install storage bins. These are so unique and extremely functional. What more could you ask for?
4) Fruit hammock
Okay so not only is this practical, but it also has a winning name – the fruit hammock. Not to be confused with the ‘banana hammock’ of course. This quick and cute kitchen design helps avoid the need for an entire bowl taking up counter space. Your fruit can simply hang out of the way!
5) Too many mugs? No problem.
Have you ever heard someone say “I don’t have enough mugs”? Nah, I didn’t think so. Me neither. They quickly take up a lot of cupboard space, so to get the most out of your shelving, you can install one of these handy mug hanging units.
6) For the jewellery addicts
Jewellery is notoriously hard to store. Necklaces are dangly earrings easily get tangled and lost to the depths of a jewellery box. But by hanging earrings on mesh, they stay separated and on display so you can easily pick out the best accent for your outfit.
7) Lego bricks
So this hack won’t guarantee you’ll never step on a lego block again… though whoever comes up with that will be a goddess. But this home hack will definitely keep the majority of the pieces off the floor, and help your kids start some healthy organizing habits.
8) Silverware tray
“I got sick of all the plastic to throw the spoons in this compartment and the forks in this one organizers….so built my own flatware storage!”
This one looks so aesthetically pleasing. It requires a little more care than just chucking your cutlery in a drawer, but looks beautiful. You’ll also notice immediately if any of your silverware is missing!
9) Under the sink
I will be the first to admit the area under my sink is a disaster zone. There’s never enough space to fit everything so it all kind of gets chucked under there for future me to deal with. But this person came up with a clever hack. By adding some simple baskets and hooks to the doors, everything can be given it’s own compartment!
10) Shoe storage
What’s great about this one is that it keeps your shoes organized but also puts them on display. You can see both the back and front of each pair without having to remove them from the shelf or open up every stacked shoebox. Pretty genius, really. You can also use the same storage unit to store small purses if you’re a shoe and bag addict.
11) DIY doggy steps
This unique under-the-bed storage unit doubles as little steps to help her dog get up on the bed. If that’s not the cutest thing you hear all day… I don’t know.
12) Knife organizer
If you’re short on counter space and don’t want to sacrifice it to an entire knife block, you can still hide the knife block away while keeping the knives secure and in place. Having them sliding around all loosey goosey in a drawer makes them hard to find and pick the one you’re looking for.
13) You’ve heard of a tool box… now see this tool wall
A toolbox can quickly become a disaster zone. And even if you know you have the specific tool you’re looking for, you might not be able to find it. So this simple wall mount is an awesome solution to make everything easy to find.
14) Extra cable storage
Studies have shown every household has approximately 1.3 billion cables they’re not using. (I made that up, but it feels true.) These handy little plastic containers are a great way to keep them all organized so you’re not sifting through a drawer pulling out tangled cords and wondering what they’re used for.
15) Ice cube trays don’t just hold ice
“Arrow ice cub tray fits MAC lipsticks perfectly – major storage hack!”
I want to know what prompted this woman to try and put her lipstick into an ice cube tray, but it works so I won’t question it. The best part about storing your lipsticks upside down is being able to see the color name on the bottom!
16) Firewood storage
This stunning home hack keeps firewood close by and acts as a design feature instead of a pile of logs in a basket like most of us have. I would build a fire every day if this was in my living room! So cozy.
17) Make up storage
Not all bathrooms have been blessed with lots of counter space and storage drawers. So for anyone short on space, you can make a quick fix by organizing your make up in small plastic storage boxes. I love what they did here with the labels for make up that works for the day vs the night.
18) Lockers for shelving
I am obsessed with these colorful storage lockers! Who would think they could be such a nice addition to a home? Not me. But especially when painted like these ones, the pop of color and layers of storage just can’t be compared.
19) Hang your utensils
This turns utensils into a decorative wall design, and keeps them convenient when cooking. For this example, it turned an otherwise boring plain white wall into an interesting feature. Very creative!
20) Book shelf head board
I only recommend this one if you live in an area where earthquakes aren’t a regular occurrence. But otherwise, this is an awesome space-saving idea that allows you to sleep among all your favorite stories.
21) Window blinds? No, a drying rack
“Kim Bobin & Ko Kyungeun have come up with a Red Dot Design Award winning solution to this problem – window blinds that fold out into a drying rack, conveniently located near the best source of natural wind and light to speed things along.”

“Got a new bike and had to find space in the living room for it. Solution: Mounting it on the wall. It surely is an eye catcher and attracts all the attention it deserves ;).”
Bike storage is next to impossible in small apartments. If there’s two people sharing the living space? Forget about it. But if you want to show it off and keep it out of the way, this wall mount achieves both of those things at once.
25) Jam jars for ceiling storage
“My dad, using every square inch of our small garage for his workshop, has a bunch of old jam jars with their lids screwed onto the ceiling for storage.”
This is next level. Now I want to know what other crazy clever things he’s built down there. We’ve all seen or used jam jars as storage before but… I’ve never thought to hang one from the ceiling!
26) Magnetic spice rack
“Magnetic spice containers were a great investment.”
I am obsessed with these. They look cute, are easy to access, and you can see exactly what you’re looking for. No more spinning the spice rack in circles, or pulling them all out from the pantry. This also saves on so much space – really a win-win-win!

This clever DIY organization enthusiast created the ultimate spice rack. They doubled down on storage both on shelves but also behind the door, and keeps measuring cups in the same space. Which seems logical doesn’t it?!

30) Turn your clutter nook into an office space
“I have zero space in any other room for a desk. Prior to relocating it, it use to be in the dining room. But that room is also tiny that my desk was also the dining table. Now I have space to get an actual dining table again!”
Slow clap for this person. It’s so easy to see the underside of a staircase as a place for clutter and storage, but this person broke the mold and turned it into a highly useful area of the home. Inspiring!
31) Cooking pot lid storage
The storage solution of our dreams. No more lids sliding all over the drawer and haphazardly fitting on some pots and not others. No. They belong in neat little rows behind the door like this.
32) Kitchen wrap basket
Keep your staple kitchen wraps like aluminium and parchment paper under the sink but in a purpose-made hanging basket. This makes it easy to store them out of the way but keep them easily accessible.
33) Three-tiered bunk beds
Can we call this a ‘thrunk bed”? This is one cool way to save on room space… now there’s so much room for activities! The boys look pretty excited about their unique sleeping arrangements, too.

42) Vertical wall baskets
This is great for those with a small pantry and not enough space for all their goods. You can double down on storage space with one simple installation.
43) Hang your pants
For whatever reason, we have all decided as a society that our jeans belong in dresser drawers. But they’re so chunky and fill up that space so quickly! Hanging them allows you to fit way more pairs of pants and see them in their entirety instead of just a snap shot when folded up in a drawer.

Wall dividers like this are so useful for helping to break up open spaces into more defined areas. Using this opportunity to store more of your things makes it a double win. The only thing to consider is that you can’t put too many things on the divider, or it will quickly make the space look cluttered. This is the perfect example of a good balance.

52) secret skinny storage
I love this clever way to store spices, condiments, and more importantly, wine, in the kitchen. The old door does so much more for the design of the room than a plain silver fridge wall would. And doubles as more storage. Brilliant.
53) Hat hangers
We all know someone with way too many hats. But a couple of regular closet hangers can make all the difference when storing them. This person has hung nearly 30 hats on just 3 hangers and because they’re layered vertically they don’t take up any extra space.
