When the owners first purchased this Laguna Beach cottage, it was a serious fixer-upper and in major need of a makeover, but they put in the hard work, and it certainly paid off. Now – the house is one of the most lovely homes in California.

This 1946 cottage was completely remodeled and filled with ‘beachy’ details and charm.

An oar on the wall with another nautical painting truly gives you that ‘beach cottage’ feel. There is also a built-in cabinet, often found in homes from this era, perfect for storing books or displaying knick-knacks.

Behind the sofa, you’ll find framed vintage swimsuits from the 1940s.

The simple black frames are a beautiful contrast to the stark white wood-paneled walls. Mismatched throw pillows and a bright green throw blanket look great against the neutral-toned sofa.

The hallway bookshelf is filled with seashells, coral, and antiques – paying homage to the home’s history as well as the ocean.

“The floors, lighting, doors, and windows are original, but just about everything else is new. My goal on this project was to restore the home to how it would have felt when it was built in 1946 (with a few modern conveniences!),” Clark Collins, of Collins Design & Development says.

In the ‘down to the studs’ remodel – they kitchen was completely redone.

Blue and white linens are perfect for an ocean-centric cottage, and bamboo roman shades are used as window treatments. The original wood flooring flows throughout almost every room in the house.
