As life slowly returns to normal and schools are let out for summer vacation, it’s the perfect time to bust out the tents and go camping. While the daytime temperatures remain warm, the nights still provide a nice crispness to the air, making it the ideal time of year to spend a few nights away from the hustle and bustle of urban centers.

A night or two away from the cities, surrounded by the sounds of crickets, and covered under a blanket of stars is the perfect family getaway. But, kids are also known to be fairly picky eaters at times.

1) Roasted Strawberries Covered in Marshmallow Fluff

This simple recipe is sure to be a crowd favorite. It also serves as a healthier alternative to s’mores without having to give up any of the marshmallow goodness.

2) Roasted Starbursts

This recipe is sure to please all the candy lovers in the group. Simply gather your favorite flavors of starbursts, pop them on a stick, and get roasting! Be sure to let the candy cool before eating, as the starbursts can get quite hot.

3) Cinnamon Rolls on a Stick

To begin this recipe, unravel the dough then begin twisting around a skewer or a stick. Set the skewer near the fire but away from any direct flames. Let the dough cook until brown.

4) Baked Apple

This one is as simple as it sounds. Slice an apple and gather butter, brown sugar, and any desired toppings. Add all of the ingredients together then wrap in aluminum foil. To bake, set the wrapped ingredients on hot coals.

5) Maple Syrup Kettle Corn

Cover the bottom of a pot in oil and let heat. Add popcorn seeds and stir. Right before the kernels begin to pop, add in 1/4 – 1/2 cup of maple syrup along with white sugar.

6) Nutella and Biscoff Cookie S’mores

The Nutella spread is infinitely more simple than trying to spread a block of chocolate while the Biscoff cookies take a traditional camping favorite to an entirely new level. Prepare the ingredients and melt the marshmallows as you would with traditional s’mores.

7) Campfire Churros

Grab a can of instant dinner rolls, open, and cut the pieces into halves. Roast the dough without setting it directly into the flames. Add sugar and cinnamon into a bag then mix. When the dough is cooked, roll in butter then drop into the mixture bag. Shake, shake, shake!

8) Campfire Donuts

Grab another can of instant dinner rolls. Separate the pieces and puncture holes into the dough, carefully stretching the dough out. Cook in oil over an open fire. Dump powdered sugar into a bag and add the cooked dough. Shake and serve!

9) Campfire Banana Split

Peel a banana and cut it open. Add toppings to your heart’s desire, wrap in tin foil, then bake. Be sure to rotate the banana while cooking and open it carefully after baking.

10) Baked Candied Sweet Yams

This recipe is too simple to mess up! Simply cut open a yam then add butter. Sprinkle on some brown sugar, cinnamon, and mini marshmallows. Wrap in foil then cook for 12-15 minutes.
